HKOP Research Fellowship is aimed at supporting local printmakers who plan to partake in the research and development of technologies applicable to print art, to be shared primarily with the Hong Kong printmakers, and interested artists or groups.
Research parameters include but are not limited to
- Contemporary imaging technologies and processes – analogue and digital
- Application of new materials in contemporary printmaking – including pigments, matrices and substrates, etc.
The selected fellow will enjoy:
- Free access to the HKOP Print Lab and HKOP Archive of Hong Kong Open Printshop
- Free access to 2 of the printmaking workshops organised by HKOP
- Technical and artistic mentorship
- A stipend –AND– material subsidy over the period of the 11-month fellowship
- An exhibition curated by the HKOP to disseminate and share the outcomes of the research project with the public

Eligibility
- Applicants must be Hong Kong residents
- Graduates of local or overseas tertiary education institution – major in print art or related discipline of visual arts
- Fluent in written and spoken English, able to manage daily conversations in Cantonese preferred
- Applicants must demonstrate a high-level understanding of one of the following mediums: lithography, intaglio, monotype, screen printing, relief printing and digital printing
- An understanding of digital technologies and academic research would be an advantage
- Applicants must present a comprehensive portfolio to support the above criteria
- Able to commit to the 11-month fellowship, from August 2026 to June 2027

Responsibilities
- Conduct research as proposed
- Attend regular meetings with Project Leader for review and evaluation
- Collaborate with other researchers if needed
- Deliver research reports, presentations, and exhibitions to conclude the fellowship
- Participate in the preparation and production of an exhibition scheduled between May and June 2027

Please submit the following materials to [email protected] with the subject line “Submission: HKOP Research Fellowship 2026/27” on or before 11:59p.m. July 12, 2026, HKT.
The submission MUST include the following:
- A completed application form (Click here to download the form)
- A portfolio with 10 images of recent work with detailed captions – media, dimensions, year completed, etc., in JPG format, each file no less than 2MB. Please save images as last name_01.jpg, last name_02.jpg
- Video files should be saved as MP4 or MOV, and should be no longer than 5 minutes in length
- DO NOT share files via links
- Only applications by email are considered valid
- Incomplete or late submissions will not be considered

Selection
Entries that comply with the open call guidelines will be reviewed by our juried panel. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to present their research topic to the panel in an interview during July or August. Final result will be announced on Print Art Contemporary’s website and social media pages. Selected fellow will also be notified individually. The fellowship is expected to support no more than one fellow, and Print Art Contemporary reserves the right not to select any.
